Julian Assange Summary of Events and Update

Well it seems that the smear campaign against Julian Assange has finally officially begun. Within the course of only a few hours, the following transpired.

• A Swedish tabloid reported that Assange was being charged with rape and molestation by two separate individuals;

• The story was picked up by mainstream media sources like CNN;

• The events were reported with an accusatory and alarmist tone in the absence of any real evidence or information aside from a vague report that two women had made the accusations, and

• The charges were reported to have been dropped.

A charge of molestation may still be standing, but we cannot be certain of the significance or validity of these claims because Swedish authorities have asserted that they will not be making any more statements for the remainder of the day.
